2010/06/04

Q: The leader of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) Naoto Kan was elected as the new Japanese Prime Minister today. What's China's comment on that? What is China's expectation of the new Japanese Cabinet on the development of China-Japan relations?

A: We express our sincere congratulations to Mr. Kan on his election as the new Japanese Prime Minister. Prime Minister Naoto Kan stressed on many occasions that he values developing China-Japan relations. We express our appreciation for that.

Premier Wen Jiabao just concluded a successful visit to Japan and the two sides reached many important consensus on promoting the development of China-Japan relations. We are ready to build on this and work with Japan to keep the momentum of sound development of the bilateral relationship and promote the sustained and in-depth development of China-Japan strategic relationship of mutual benefit.
